nothing, just dinner [Mar. 20th, 2007|12:51 am]
[music |swan lake]

i just finished cooking up something i like to call "bagel pizzas", because they're pizzas made with bagels. i'm very creative, no? "what on earth comprises a bagel pizza", you ask? well, you take a bagel, and first spread a bit of margarine just for kicks on it, and then you toss on some expensive-as-shite organic tomato sauce with extra onions and garlic, and then slice up some white cheddar cheese and add it to the mix, and then throw everything into the toaster oven to get sorted out.

i had to take a lactaid pill though on account of lactose intolerance, so pardon me.

what did i do today, you're wondering? well, i took the long walk to Rotate This to buy tickets for the Over the Top festival for me and Mr Hubbarde. the walk was nice though, despite the weird dark grey day and general slushiness.

today's daily update for this day [Oct. 20th, 2006|01:29 am]
[Current Location |My apartment at my desk]
[music |Destroyer]

Due to inexorable popular demand, I will now update this old fossil for the first time in months. Are you ready? Yes? Okay, here goes nothing: (wait... aaaannd... NOW:) Tonight I went to this political hip-hop show thing at University College (at University of Toronto) with my comrade (not to mention my musical partner) SeƱor Rob "Bert" Cole. The rappers were preaching better messages than most hip hop these days, but all the same I found them to be too aggressively rebellious-for-the-sake-of-being-rebellious and macho and "cool" and stuff. I wish some rapper somewhere would go to one of these things and wear tight pants and a little pink shirt and sing about how she/he is shy or isn't loved by anyone or wants to help the world be a better place or something. instead of just yelling at the establishment whilst guarded by a wall of badass cool confrontationalness and stuff. it just seems like they don't think critically enough about what they're doing. like, one guy was criticising the commodification of Ernesto "Che" Guevara's image in his rap, and even sweatshops and stuff, but i couldn't help noticing that he was wearing these huge Nike or Reebok-looking shoes, and his entire outfit looked like it came from Sporting Life or something.

But i did like/admire the frank, confrontational nature of the show/music. Some of the songs were performed a capella, so it was ALL about the lyrics and the message, like spoken word, so it was a great vessel for political art or whatever.

Afterwards (i.e. when we had had enough of this hip hop stuff) we went to das Kensington market to catch this performance art party thing at X-Pace. So we get there and there's three women dressed in weird outfits with skirts and high heels (outfits which i must confess summoned our "interest") marching about squirting paint balloons and coloured liquids and then sipping them off the floor and then spitting them around and on themselves, and shaking bottles of pop and then opening them and making a huge mess and then drinking them and spilling them on themselves and everywhere...
in conclusion, it was pretty strange and funny and entertaining in many ways.

then when they were done everyone in the audience just "mingled" and talked and ate the vegetables and drinks that were served and rob and i sat there for a bit just looking at the beautiful people, and then we biked back to my apartment and hung out here for a bit.

I'm gonna finish a song i'm writing right now about death. it's a love song.

sweet dreams.

Love,
Alexander "Walrus" R. Arvelo McQuaig

white sky of clouds [Jun. 23rd, 2006|03:42 pm]
[music |joy division - decades]

i'm almost done my new cd. my feet are dirty from walking around barefoot on dirty floors so much. but that's fun. i use a pop can full of water for percussion in my new cd. there's a salt shaker on my desk that spilled a bit a few days ago so there's little salts on my desk. it's so warm outside now. last night after midnight i was reading Broken Pencil magazine on the balcony of my 14th floor apartment and it was really pleasant. in a t-shirt, reading at night, on a balcony, in the warm summer night, soft breeze and hearing cars purr past me down below. this morning i went to home hardware and the supermarket with a certain L.E.U. and now i'm sitting in my apartment again wondering what i'll do today apart from sitting aorund on the computer. i want to finish my album this weekend. we're performing Conconquidore Truidore at the tranzac on monday night. i'm a little sleepy.

(no subject) [May. 22nd, 2006|06:25 pm]
[music |The hum of my guitar amplifier being on]

Hm.. what is happening with me, you ask? Well, first of all, let's start with the basics. The sky is pure white with clouds, here in the suburban town called Pickering in which my family lives. The leaves are shaking on the trees through the glass that divides my room from the wilderness and the cold world(even though it's summer). I hear the distant purr of a train passing north from here.

I woke up with a mildly sore throat, as I have been for the past few days, which is really irritating. Then I went downstairs and ate some oatmeal junk cereal unfortunately of a company owned by Pepsico and I ate way too many sunflower seeds and now I can't stand the thought of having more.

I need to finish my next album soon or else Rob will be too far ahead of me. He just gave me his first one yesterday and it's amazing and much better than mine.

Why is Kids in the Hall so good? I don't get it.

It looks really nice outside. I love it when it's all cloudy and almost-stormy looking. It makes me want to lie in bed and read a book. Although I never do that, and prefer sitting on the computer wasting my life.

I'd like to start doing visual art more.

Anyone? [May. 16th, 2006|12:51 am]
[music |Sun Ra]

I guess no one reads this thing. Although I can't really blame them, because I so seldom update it, and occasionally post entries which are just fishing for reassurance that people do read this thing. But they probably don't, right? Please?

Matthew is living here now and he's playing me some Sun Ra on his laptop, we just got back from lindsay's place. We watched mothman prophecies there. I'm drinking grape and peach juice.
